Iranian media reported that Taliban officials have expressed readiness to resolve the long-standing water rights dispute with Iran during a meeting with the acting head of Tehran’s embassy in Kabul.

According to the reports, Alireza Bikdeli, Iran’s chargé d’affaires in Kabul, met on Saturday with Mohammad Ebrahim Hikmat, head of economic affairs at the Taliban’s Office of the Prime Minister, and Shafi Azam, director general for economic cooperation at the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry.
The Taliban officials reportedly told Bikdeli that the issue of Iran’s water rights remains on their agenda and that the group is prepared to find a solution.
Both sides also discussed expanding trade, encouraging joint investment, and strengthening economic infrastructure between the two countries. Bikdeli proposed investment initiatives in Afghanistan’s mining, energy, agriculture, and livestock sectors, saying Iranian private firms are ready to take part in future projects.
Taliban officials said they are prepared to facilitate cross-border trade and cooperation in the energy sector. According to Azam, regular meetings between Kabul and Tehran will be held to follow up on the implementation of agreements.
