The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced that a man and a woman were publicly flogged in the Sancharak district of Sar-e Pol province after being convicted of having an extramarital relationship.
According to an official statement, the punishment took place on Monday, 7 April, in front of local residents. Both individuals were sentenced to three months in prison and received 10 lashes each.
The Taliban claim such punishments are carried out under “Sharia law.” However, the group's Supreme Court has consistently failed to provide details about the legal process or evidence used in these cases.
